How to eliminate your sweet tooth

Life with 3 kids while running my own practice has it’s moments of insanity and it has taught me the need for stress management – I confess I’ve reached for the chocolate and wine more than normal, at times. And when this is the case, a 10 day sugar detox is in store! Really no one is perfect, you have to forgive yourself, get back on the horse when you fall off because thtat is the most important and key lesson to learn. I’m learning and everyone is dealing with something, so don’t be judgemental because you never know what other people are going through.

You know you need this when you have the following symptoms:

You do if you have one or more of the following symptoms:

Fatigue
Belly fat or muffin top
Irritable
Afternoon headaches
Lightheaded or shaky if meals are missed.
Excessive appetite
Forgetfulness
Poor circulation
Dizziness.
Ok that being said let’s get started and talk about why we have these sugar cravings….

There are a number of reasons you have these cravings and it can be different for many, but commonly there is always a reason why you have cravings- we will talk about four of the reasons:

Cortisol, which we will define soon, is imbalanced
Stress is high and unrelenting
You are not sleeping well or not sleeping at all
Hormones are off.

Cortisol is a steroid hormone, produced by the adrenal cortex. Ok so I will stop there and define adrenals.

The adrenals, for those who do not know , are the little glands that sit atop your kidneys that help you cope with life, lack of sleep, bad diet, etc. Cortisol , a stress hormone, is released in response to stress. Its primary functions are to increase blood sugar during stress. It does some other things but we won’t get into that for time reasons. So raising blood sugar during stress – what goes up must come down, right?
When you are stressed- cortisol increases – raising the blood sugar then drops your blood sugar. When blood sugar drops- that is what causes sugar cravings.

Why? Because sugar helps to raise that blood sugar pretty quickly and it is what works the fastest making you feel better the fastest. The problem though, is it when eating those cookies/cakes.candy – this spikes the blood sguar then quickly drops it after an hour or so, leaving you feeling pretty bad and cravings sweets yet again. You can see how this cycle would repeat itself over time.

There is always a reason why you crave something…. Especially sweets…. When your blood sugar is off balance this causes cravings.

Do your own experiment and see how it affects you, skip breakfast and eat a cruddy lunch consisting of no protein and lots of processed white flour and sugar (like a peanut butter sandwich) and I bet you, you will have sugar cravings that evening. I’ve experienced it on my own. The days I want that chocolate or sweet are the days that I have not had enough protein during the day or have skipped a meal or what not.
Ok so what if you are getting in the allotted protein during the day and you are still having sugar cravings?
Ok well there are other reasons for this.

2. That being lack of sleep – hello people I’m a mom of a 4 month old and 2 other kids under the age of 5. You know that I know sleep deprivation! My heart breaks, for those that have regular insomnia, it’s insane! It’s hard to keep it and get it together!~

Sleep is so essential for so many things, your body needs sleep so that your organs can recooperate, detoxify, and renew. Many people can tend to wake at 2-3-4am – this is due to liver stagnation – if the liver is imbalanced it can cause you to wake during these times.

So when you don’t sleep at night, it increases your cortisol levels which makes you naturally crave sweets.
There was a 10 year study done on women and sleep. Those that got 8-10 hours of sleep consistently over time did not gain wait. But those that had interuptted sleep for whatever reason, gained at least 10 lbs a year. So getting to sleep is key. 8 Hours a night is needed for proper healing and regeneration. If you are not getting this then please call me and we will work together to make sleep happen!

3. The third common cause of sugar cravings is –lack of protein intake or skipping meals.
When you skip breakfast after fasting at night 7-8 hours, your blood sugar is non exsistant, there’s nothing in your tank, your gas energy tank is empty! Can you run a car wihtout gas? No not very well, so why would you not eat breakfast for your body’s own good?

I bet those of you who do not eat breakfast, will have a mighty nice sweet tooth. A general rule is 20g of protein per meal for women and 30g of protein per meal for men – if you need to see what 20 or 30g of protein is food wise just go to my website under articles and click on the protein source guide for some help. Sos yes 20-30 g of protein per meal – and make it an effort to eat every 3-4 hours. This helps to sustain and keep your blood sugars level and stable.

The more stable your blood sugars, the less cravings, more energy, and easier it is to lose that belly fat. When your blood sugar is level, other hormones like insulin and cortisol are level as well – which helps to level out moods, increase energy, and increase weight loss.

Other than protein – what else should I eat Dr. Michelle? Well everyone is different, that is why there are so many ‘diets’ out there that work for some and others not so much.

But as a general rule –if you look at a plate of food-in my opinion the biggiest portion should be towards veggies, esep the green leafy type like kale, broccoli, spinache – should take up most of the plate, the next being the meat at 3-4 oz a meal and then the smallest portion should be the startch/potato/rice.

If weight loss is the goal, then just meat and veggies should be the key. Avoiding anything that comes form a box or a bag is essential – anything processed, anything that has a label really.

4. The last reason you could have these sweet cravings is due to hormones – if this is the issue then give me a call and we will work to balance those hormones because hormones are complicated indeed, any man would tell you that!!

So let’s review the reasons for sugar cravings: 1. cortisol our stress hormone that spikes our blood sugars, 2. lack of sleep 3. lack of protein 4. hormone imbalacnes

Let’s move on and talk about what happens if you don’t get these cravings under control – it’s called diabetes….
Diabetes:

Total is 25 million children and adults in the US –making up 8% of the population – have diabetes. You may have heard the types of diabetes – Type I and Type II, they had to change what they used to call adult onset diabetes because more and more children are becoming Type II diabetic due to being overweight which is horrible!

Total prevalence of diabetes

Total: 25 million children and adults in the United States—8% of the population—have diabetes.
Diagnosed: 18 million people
*Undiagnosed: 7.0 million people*

So those are the statistics and why we need to be doing something everyday to prevent this from happening to ourselves and familes.

Diabetes can easily be reversed and I’ve seen people come off their blood sugar meds simply w diet and proper supplementation.

The best treatment in my book is prevention!! That’s why I’m doing this webinar on the 10 day sugar detox– Let’s keep those cravings out so diabetes doesn’t stand a chance!

So why do a blood sugar program?

You do if you have one or more of the following symptoms:

Symptoms:
Fatigue
Belly fat or muffin top
Irritable
Afternoon headaches
Lightheaded or shaky if meals are missed.
Excessive appetite
Forgetfulness
Poor circulation
Dizziness.
It’s easy and effective!! 4 products –protein powder, cleansing capsules, blood sugar regulator, and herb to erase cravings
—————-
1. Protein Powder – 3 Shakes per day- : Protein in the morning helps to set up your blood sugars for the rest of the day.
Having a shake
first thing in the morning gives the “first meal effect” that supplies the proper nutrients, which provides a blood sugar controlling effect
Contains many trace minerals
Kelp, alfalfa, and buckwheat have over
90 trace minerals

2. Cleansing capsules – 20 different nourishing foods to support liver, lymph, skin, kidney and blood detoxification. This is unlike other detox products which usually just focus on certain detox pathways. Supporting only one pathway is like hiring a new quarterback for a bad team. It may make some difference, but the effects are limited.
Chosen because those with blood sugar issues usually have a high toxic load. Toxins are passed from mom to babe in utero, from generation to generation, another reason why diabetes is usually ‘genetic’.
When cells are toxic and congested, communication between them is very poor.
Improving cellular communication means a better chance for the body to manage and maintain a steady blood sugar.

3. Thirdly, a blood sugar regulator which helps to balance blood sugars ….Which helps to prevent diabetes and stabilize those blood sugars.

4. Lastly, an herbal supplement that helps to also eradicate sugar cravings and cravings for carbohydrates. It also helps to regenerate the beta cells in the pancrease which are usualy pretty pathetic in those with diabetes or those that have sugar issues.

Now that you know what is involved in the program – let’s have a look at some of the results it brings…
