At Charlotte Natural Wellness we offer a wide range of services to address our patient’s health needs. We know that back health is important as it is the structure on which our bodies rely most heavily. To that end Dr. Mikaela Henson, DC provides Chiropractic care at our practice.
Your spine is made up of bones called vertebrae. When the vertebrae aligned correctly it is called a subluxation. Subluxations or misalignments can often lead to pain, decreased mobility, or they may lead to symptoms in other parts or joints of the body as well.
Pain, or the lack thereof, may not be an accurate indication of health. By the time pain and other symptoms appear problems with the spine or joints may have already existed for months, even years. Regular chiropractic care can be a preventative measure to head off pain and other symptoms or conditions.
What type of things can Chiropractic Care help with?
- Ear Infections
- Joint Pain (including in the Shoulders, Elbows and Wrists, Knees, Feet and Ankles)
- Lower and Upper Back Pain
- Neck Pain
- Migraines and Headaches
- Repetitive Stress Disorder
Chiropractic care can also lead to improved Joint Motion and better Body Coordination. For athletes, it can also promote better Physical Function and Performance.
What does Dr. Henson do?
Dr. Henson is trained and well versed in a variety of treatment techniques including:
Diversified: Diversified technique is the most commonly used technique in the chiropractic profession. Diversified is the main technique taught in chiropractic colleges, which is why most patients are familiar with it. This technique was invented by DD Palmer, D.C. The adjustment involves a quick, deeper thrust by hand with a specific line of drive to a particular spinal region or extremity. The aim of the adjustment is to restore proper movement and alignment of the spine along with restoring normal biomechanical dysfunction.
Activator: The Activator method is a technique created by Arlan Fuhr. This technique utilizes a small, hand-held instrument to deliver a gentle, high-speed impulse to the spine or extremities. The protocol is based on leg length inequality. The doctor will perform a series of muscle tests to identify specific subluxations in the spine and extremities, starting with the knees and feet and working up towards the head. The Activator method is one of the most widely researched techniques in chiropractic and is the second most used technique in chiropractic. One of the many benefits of the Activator method is the high-speed thrust prevents the muscles from tightening, making the adjustment more comfortable and effective.
Graston: Graston technique is a form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization developed by athletes. Graston helps treat both acute and chronic soft tissue injuries by using a specially designed set of stainless steel instruments to effectively break down scar tissue and adhesions in the muscle and tendons. This technique also promotes tissue repair and healing.
Kinesiology Tape: Kinesiology tape is widely used in athletics and can even be seen at the Olympic level of competition. Kinesiology tape is a thin, stretchy elastic adhesive strip almost identical to human skin. This allows the tape to be worn without restriction of movement. After a complete assessment, including muscle testing, orthopedic exams, and range of motion, the tape is applied to the affected area. The tape is designed to help the body’s natural healing process, providing support and stability to muscles and joints. It targets different receptors within the body to help alleviate pain, decrease inflammation, and facilitate lymphatic drainage. Kinesiology tape can be used along with different types of therapies to aid in patient rehabilitation.
