Getting started

What is naturopathic medicine (also called functional, alternative or holistic medicine)?

Naturopathic medicine is whole-person care tailored to you, with an emphasis on prevention and self-care. Instead of focusing only on symptoms, it looks for the underlying cause of a condition. Functional medicine adds in-depth lab testing to understand how your body’s systems affect each other. At Charlotte Natural Wellness, you get both.

What happens on the discovery call?

It’s a 15-minute phone call with your doctor for first-time patients. You share what’s been going on and ask your questions, and she confirms she’s confident she can help with your specific case. If it feels right, you can then book your 60-minute new patient visit.

How much is the discovery call? Is there any obligation?

The 15-minute discovery call is free with Dr. Monica Vaghela and $15 with Dr. Michelle Dillon. There’s no obligation to continue afterward.

What health issues do you specialize in?

Dr. Michelle Dillon specializes in women’s health and hormones, natural hormone replacement, thyroid imbalances, fatigue and stress-related issues, digestive problems, MTHFR and genetics, and prevention. Dr. Monica Vaghela specializes in blood sugar imbalances, digestion, lifestyle medicine with Ayurvedic influence, athletes and men’s health. Dr. Dillon does not treat Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

Don’t see your condition? Book a discovery call and we’ll tell you how we can help, or refer you to someone who can. You can also explore all of our naturopathic services.

Visits & cost

What can I expect at my first visit?

Your new patient visit lasts about an hour. We take an in-depth look at your medical history to understand the events that led to your current health, and review any lab work from the last 12 months. If more testing is needed, we explain why and arrange it. We work in three steps:

  1. Foundations. A 1-hour visit, then a 30-minute follow-up about 3 to 4 weeks later to review results and options.
  2. Restoration (3 to 6 months). 30-minute follow-ups every 4 to 6 weeks, where much of the work on root causes happens, including diet, lifestyle and inflammation.
  3. Maintenance. Follow-ups every 3 or 6 months, or once a year, because health is an ongoing process.

How much does the first visit cost?

The new patient visit is 60 minutes and costs $550 with either Dr. Dillon or Dr. Vaghela. A non-refundable online deposit holds your appointment. At your second visit, your doctor will recommend whether a 3-visit package ($750) or a 6-visit package ($1,500) fits you best, with a pay-monthly option of $275 per month.

Do you accept insurance? Can I use my HSA or FSA?

We don’t accept insurance, but you can pay with your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes. Discovery calls are by phone, and new patient and follow-up visits are available in person at our South Charlotte office or by video from home. See how virtual visits work.

Do you offer care programs?

Yes. After your first visit and follow-up, your doctor may recommend a program such as the Hormone Balancing Program (6 visits) or the Digestive Restoration Program (3 visits, including comprehensive stool testing), or simply regular follow-ups.

Testing & supplements

Do you run bloodwork or other labs?

We order the labs that fit your needs, from standard bloodwork through Quest Diagnostics and Labcorp to specialty tests when they add value: stool testing for parasites, bacteria and digestive imbalances, saliva testing for hormones, adrenal function or neurotransmitters, and urine testing for organic acids, hormones or toxins.

Can I use lab results from another doctor?

Yes, if your bloodwork is from the last 6 to 12 months. We look for optimal levels rather than only the standard “normal” range, so we may recommend additional testing if your results are incomplete.

Do you carry supplements?

Yes. We carry physician-grade supplements, available at our office or to order online.

Do you offer injectable vitamins or IV therapy?

No. We don’t offer IV therapy or injectable vitamins at this time.

Hormones & women’s health

Do you work with women in perimenopause and menopause?

Yes. We help with hot flashes, night sweats, sleep and mood changes and other perimenopause and menopause symptoms, including natural hormone replacement when it’s appropriate. Many women start with our Hormone Balancing Program.
