3 Immune Boosting Tips for Back to School
Back to school, sigh!
Well that time of the year is just around the corner at least for some. In a few weeks my two daugthers will head back to school.
I have mixed emotions about it. I know that my middle will do wonders and she is so ready. But I find myself tearful at times because , geez kids grow up fast, and the parenting road is bumpy and full of surprises.
Part of me doesn't want them to grow up anymore, but then if they stayed at this age, I think I would lose my mind. You just kind of miss the sweet innocence of babies and toddlers and pre-K kids, that gets muddled when they are around older more worldly, mean, kids at school or wherever.
It is so fleeting, but hey, I have to learn to live in the now,and be grateful for the health of my children, and the fact that they are doing well. They are thriving and growing, and it is just part of life.
So let's get to the 3 Immune Boosting tips to keep not only your kids well, but the family in general.
Tip numero uno/ #1:
Give them Vitamin D.
So let's take some vitamin D.
So if your child weights 45 lbs - I would do about 1 to 2,000 IU per day.
I prefer getting the vitamin D in a liquid oil form.
The reason why, is vitaminD is fat soluble (you can only absorb it if it's in a fat environment) so being in olive oil or something like that is preferred.
Vitamin D does ALOT - some want to call lit a hormone instead of a vitamin because it is so busy and does soo much - it's an over-achiever for sure!
-
Improves your immune system
- Improves mood
- Improves mineral absorption
- Lowers cancer risk
- Lowers autoimmunity risk
- Is super cool - yes!

3 Steps in Reading a Food Label to know if it's 'Healthy' or Not
3 Easy Things to look for when Reading a Food Label
With marketing these days, it can be quite hard to determine what is exactly ‘healthy’ and ‘natural.’
Here are 3 steps to help you navigate through the confusing waters of a food label and really hone in on what is important.
- How many ingredients are there listed ? If the ingredients take up half of the box, then put that sucker down. Look for foods that are around 10 or less ingredients, as the more ingredients there are the more it is a science experiment and less a healthy food. Observe what the first few ingredients are. The first ingredient listed is what makes the majority of the product.
- Can you easily pronounce the ingredients ? If it takes you a few seconds to even sound out the ingredients, then you should not have too much interest eating this product. You want to know exactly what you are eating.
- Look for warning ingredients such as ‘high fructose corn syrup or corn syrup’, hydrogenated oils or partially hydrogenated oils, anything that ends in ‘ose”. High fructose corn syrup actually candy coats your blood cells and makes you more susceptible to diabetes. Hydrogenated oils increases the unfavorable cholesterol in your blood, and anything that ends in 'ose' is a sugar. Sugar is the root of most disease.
Why I didn't go into calories, RDA, and the like?
Bottom line - if it is man-made it is not as healthy as the foods that are whole and unprocessed by man.
Calories are not as important as eating high quality, fresh, and healthy foods.
You can count calories all you want but what you really need to focus on is eating healthy, fresh, unadulterated foods.
The more you focus on this, the healthier you will be and the better you will feel.
Bottom line: Aim for foods that do not have a nutritional label. Pick up an apple, you know it’s an apple. Look for God made foods instead of what man has made and messed up.

3 Helpful Tips for Breast pain, lumps, & bumps-
Breast Pain, lumps and bumps.
What is the first word that comes to mind when someone begins to have breast pain?
How about when you find a lump or a bump of some sort.
It scares you and gives you chills down your spine.
But it doesn't have to be that way.
I know a few months ago I found something in one of my breasts and was having some un-explainable breast pain.
I slightly freaked out, went to one of my colleagues, she gave me some supplements, and I gave a a month or so.
There was some improvement but I was still having the pain and the lump was still there.
So I went and got a breast thermogram with Gaye @ Holistic Breast Health. But I still had to wait a few weeks for the results.
Side Note: Know that if and when you do get a breast thermogram, know that about 95% of women who have them, never had a 'normal, everything is healthy' kind of result.
Gaye walked me through the results, which showed some 'areas to work on.' These areas showed congestion, and with congestion can be problems.
This still did not make me feel that great, and I was still quite nervous about it all.
So Gaye recommended getting a breast Ultrasound.
Now for those of you who do not know, you can not get a breast ultrasound in Charlotte, without getting a mammogram first and in order to get a mammogram you have to have a certain doctors note.
Ugh!
Another side note: For those of you who are not aware, there are many studies coming out that those women who have 'dense' breasts, or smaller breasts in general, mammograms are not affective, this is something that Gaye explained to me. www.AreYouDense.com was made by a woman, Nancy, who On February 3, 2004, was diagnosed with Stage 3c breast cancer six weeks after receiving a "normal" mammography report.
So it goes to show you that especially those with dense breasts mammograms are not always the best answer.
So what was the answer??
Gaye then told me about a company called, Herscan.com which is an awesome company who travels around the country giving breast ultrasounds to women who are concerned about an area in their breasts.
**They travel to Charlotte every quarter or so and will be in the North Carolina area June 5 through the 9th**
Ultrasounds are the best way to detect if anything is going on that shouldn't be in your breasts!!
So I had the ultrasound, and then had to wait for the results for 2-3 weeks.
Ugh!
With prayer and being how cool God is.
God gave me a peace that surpassed all understanding, which I sure appreciated.
Because waiting for those results sure helped me develop that virtue of patience that we all need, right?!
But long and behold, the results came.
And praise God -were free and clear of any issues what so ever, whew!!!
A sigh of relief!
The thing was, I still had this breast lump, what to do with that?
Well that's when Gaye referred me to Effie Hall, the miracle worker breast lymphatic massage and educator.
She worked wonders and after a few sessions, not only was my lump gone, but my breasts are less dense, no longer tender and just feel so much healthier.
Here are the 3 Tips she gave me:
- Massage your breasts - yes you need to know where all your lumps and bumps are. When you have an area with a bump, you need to work that area.
The breasts are made up of lymphatic tissue. This tissue does not move on it's own and needs you to move it not only with your fingers but movement with your body.
Us Americans do not allow any movement when it comes to our breasts. We strap them down and squish them with underwire and straps.
The tighter the bra, the less movement.
The less movement, the more stagnation.
The more stagnation, the more issues - pain, lumps, and bumps you will have!
There have been a number of women who have mentioned breast issues and the first thing I tell them is to get rid of that underwire, get rid of the tight bras, and wa-la all the breast issues go away!!
(I will have to write another article on the signs and symptoms to not ignore or look for that are more serious)
The best thing to do is to work starting at your nipple and work out towards the end of the breast - sort of like starting at the center of a wheel and work out like the spokes on the wheel.
The areas you need to focus on are around the arm pit.
Did you know your breast goes all the way up into your arm pit region?
Yes so be sure to work that area.
Think of it like 'milking honey out of a sponge', because the lymph fluid is thick like honey and you must use some pressure to get it out of the congested breast areas.
If you find a particular area that is uber tender, well that is an area you really really need to focus and work on.
2. Do not wear underwire bras --- Try not to wear tight bras -- Going bra-less if you can is even better.
Ok so I got ahead of myself. But I repeat it again because underwire, although gives nice shape to a breast, it is not very healthy.
I can hear you now, but , but , but.
Well what I say to you is, wear your underwire when you need it to that event or what not, then the minute you can, take it off and get your breasts moving!
But I will tell you, once you are used to allowing that lymph to flow in your breasts and give your gals freedom.
They really do not like it when you constrain them again, it just will not be as comfortable as an underwire may have been. :)
3. Applying Topical Iodine to your breasts.
Yes so breast tissue or any tissue for that matter that likes to form cysts especially need iodine.
Iodine helps to shrink and prevent cysts.
One thing you need to make sure of though is that the quality of the iodine is super important.
Iodine can come from all kinds of toxic sources, so you want to be sure you are using an iodine that is clean.
I prefer Lugol's iodine and mix it with an herb called phytolacca which also helps with lymphatic flow.
(We have started carrying this at the office and can ship it to those that are out of state as well. )
So what you do, is rub it on your breasts and note how long it takes for the iodine to go away.
If the yellow color on your breasts is gone in a matter of an hour, then you need more iodine.
Anything that is on your skin gets absorbed into your blood stream in seconds.
So when the iodine is absorbed fairly quickly you know you need it!
If by the end of the day it is still there then, I would only use the iodine every few weeks.
If you are one that absorbs the iodine quickly I would use it consistently 1-3x a week.
*You can get too much iodine, and it can aggravate some people, but don't worry I'd be happy to help you, no stress!
My passion and God given calling is working with women who are struggling with health issues and giving them a natural approach in healing themselves.
We can run lab work to determine the underlying cause and then put together a personalized protocol to meet your body's needs.

1 Step to Improve ANY Situation

There was something going on with my oldest daughter and I just couldn't put my finger on it or figure out what it was. I would ask her what was wrong, and she wouldn't be able to articulate it.
She didn't seem herself and it made worried. She just seemed down, but with no reason other than some friend drama in her first grade class.
I didn't like it.
I missed her silly go lucky attitude and goofiness.
So I prayed about it, and tried not to worry. Worry runs in my family and I have learned that instead of worrying, I will just give it to God.
So everyday at 6:22 pm I pray for my oldest.
Why that specific time?
Well that is her birthday, June 22nd, it's a good reminder for me to pray for her.
It's been 3 weeks and by golly she is back to normal. She is happier and I am relieved.
One can argue, it's something that could have resolved on its' own.
Yes, I could agree, but praying to the God of the universe - what harm can that bring?
And the best thing is , it takes the stress and worry off of a Mother's shoulders and puts it on a good good God.
So now, multiple times a day, my phone alarm will go off to remind me to pray for my marriage (12:18), and my other children's birthdays.
I challenge you to do the same.
Watch how it changes your day and your perspective.
Less stress, less worry.
God is good and wants to hear what's going on with you, give Him your stress and he will bless you with the peace that surpasses all understanding.

Garcinia Cambogia is NOT the answer to Healthy WEIGHT LOSS
Weight Loss - Tips for easy weight loss.
Sigh.
So many people have asked me lately if Garcinia Cambogia is the answer to their weight loss battles.
Not only does this herb cause liver and kidney issues, but know that weight loss is NOT achieved by taking a pill, it's changing your lifestyle!
Here are 3 Easy Natural Tips for Weight Loss:
- Get Good Sleep! If you are not sleeping well or sleeping at least 7 hours a night at minimum, you will not lose weight! Stress hormones, like cortisol, will increase making weight loss a disaster!
- Eat more fiber! Eating more fiber actually helps to satiate your system. Just be sure to increase your water intake to help keep those bowels moving. Just adding 1-2 tablespoons of ground flax seeds is helpful, along with eating those veggies! Eating 4 cups of veggies daily can help to decrease cancer by 73%!
- Be sure to eat protein to help stabilize blood sugar and keep cravings low and gone! Take your ideal weight and divide by two, this will give you the amount of protein in grams needed in a day. So if you are 140 lbs, you will need 70g per day. Divide that again in 3 and that is the amount of protein needed per meal.

3 Steps for a Healthier Thyroid
Thyroid Health.
The thyroid is a gland that sits in just below your voice box. It hangs out there pretty insignificantly but it is so very important for your overall health and wellness.
Here are some of the functions the thyroid is involved in:
- Regulation of the metabolism - yep it helps with weight balance
- Regulation of temperature - it’s your internal thermostat
- Regulation of Maturation and body development - so it helps you grow
- Plays a role in hormone balance and fertility - you can not get pregnant very easily with an imbalanced thyroid.
- Prevention of Dementia
- Prevention of osteoporsis
So obviously the thyroid is a pretty important gland and one can not live very well without it.
3 Ways the thyroid gets imbalanced:
- Avoid Chlorine - Whoa! There are many ways the thyroid gets bombed everyday with these chemicals that are pretty common and everyday in nature.
Chlorine. Chlorine is horrible for the thyroid! The biggest most common exposure is taking a shower. For those of you not connected up to a well and are not filtering your shower water, you are exposing your body to a crazy amount of chlorine. It’s time to get a filter! (They are available at Lowes for 20-30$)
Why is Chlorine Bad?
Chlorine is a Halogen, it is a chemical that matches with others that are similar in molecular structure.Iodine is very similar in structure than chlorine, so the body gets confused and wants to absorb all the chlorine thinking it is iodine.
Why is this bad?
Iodine is needed for the thyroid to work. It’s kinda like a key that starts a car. The car will not start with the proper key. The thyroid can not become active without iodine. So if you are always exposing yourself to chlorine , with tap water, bleach, swimming pools, and other chemicals containing chlorine, you are also de-activating your thyroid!
So avoid all chlorine substances and filter your tap and shower water!
- Eat Brazil Nuts - Yes those are those funky nuts that don’t look like nuts but look more like horns that fell off a goat. But they are packed with selenium, which is a great mineral that really supports and balances the thyroid.
Eat 1-2 nuts per day - to keep your thyroid at bay.
- Avoid Raw Cruciferous Veggies. Raw broccoli, cauliflower, and kale to name a few all when raw can inhibit thyroid function. Now you would probably have to eat multiple cups a day for this to happen. I have heard of some people who do or put them in their smoothies. So best to lightly steam or sautee these great veggies to stop the issue with inhibiting the thyroid and you are good to go.

Safe Non-Toxic Sunblock Guide 2016
This year, EWG scientists investigated more than 750 beach and sport sunscreens for our 10th annual guide, and while there has been significant progress over the last decade, serious concerns remain.
Almost 75 percent of the products we examined provide inferior sun protection or contain worrisome ingredients like the hormone-disrupting chemical oxybenzone. So before you head out in the sun this Summer, make sure you’re prepared with EWG’s 2016 Guide to Sunscreens.
The increase in mineral-only sunscreens
Since 2007, we have found a dramatic increase in the availability of mineral-only sunscreens, doubling from 17 percent of products to 34 percent in 2016. Sunscreens using zinc oxide and titanium dioxide tend to rate well in our analysis: They are stable in sunlight, offer a good balance between protection from the two types of ultraviolet radiation (UVA and UVB) and don’t often contain potentially harmful additives.
Misleading sky-high SPF values
Consumers select products based on their SPF, or sunburn protection factor, and mistakenly assume that bigger numbers are better. In reality, higher SPF ratings don’t necessarily offer greater protection from other UV-related skin damage and may lead users to spend too much time in the sun.
In 2011, FDA determined that high SPF claims may be “inherently misleading,” and proposed to join most industrialized nations in capping SPF values at 50+. But it hasn’t finalized the rule, and the inflated SPF values for American sunscreens keep climbing: In 2007, only 10 sunscreens in our guide claimed SPF 70 and higher. This year we found 61 products making such claims, including 15 products advertised as SPF 100 or higher.
Increase in UVA filter use
Over the past decade dermatologists and skin cancer researchers have concluded that good sunscreens should not only guard against sunburn, primarily caused by UVB rays, but also protect people from lower-energy UVA rays. In 2007, only one in six products in our guide included an active ingredient that filters UVA rays. In 2011, FDA set the first rules for testing broad spectrum protection, and this year nearly every product in our database contains an ingredient known to filter UVA rays.
Yet FDA’s broad spectrum rule is still too lax. When it was proposed EWG estimated that 80 percent of products would pass the new test without any change to their formulation. Europe sets a higher bar, requiring UVA protection to rise in proportion to SPF, which reflects only UVB protection. This year, we estimate that nearly every sunscreen we reviewed passes the FDA test, but that about half of them would not offer enough UVA protection to be sold in Europe.
UVA protection will not improve until FDA approves the use of modern ingredients that provide stronger protection. In 2014, President Obama signed the Sunscreen Innovation Act, a law to speed the review of new ingredients, which have the potential to dramatically improve the UV protection of American sunscreens. It allows FDA to more efficiently review ingredients that are used successfully on the international sunscreen market. FDA has requested more data from sunscreen companies about the safety and effectiveness of all pending active ingredients.
Despite concerns, sprays still dominate the market
Sunscreen sprays are popular with consumers. In 2007, just under 20 percent of the sunscreens we reviewed were sprays; this year, just under 30 percent were.
But EWG is concerned that these products pose an inhalation risk and may not provide a thick and even coating on skin. In 2011, FDA raised similar concerns. The agency indicated it would ban sprays unless sunscreen companies submitted more data to prove that spray sunscreens protect skin and pose no safety hazards. Until companies can provide the data to negate these concerns, EWG cautions people to avoid these products.
Vitamin A
EWG remains concerned that a common sunscreen additive, a form of vitamin A called retinyl palmitate, can harm skin. Government test data shows more skin tumors and lesions on animals treated with this ingredient and exposed to sunlight.
In 2010, when EWG first voiced concerns about this additive, nearly 40 percent of the products we reviewed contained Vitamin A. Since then, the use of this troubling ingredient in sunscreens has dropped by more than half, contained in only 16 percent of the products we surveyed for 2016.
Oxybenzone
Oxybenzone is a common UV filter in sunscreen. It is a hormone disruptor and allergen. Sampling by the Centers for Disease Control and Protection has detected it in the urine of 97 percent of Americans. Despite emerging concerns, the sunscreen industry continues to rely heavily on oxybenzone as an active ingredient: it was in 70 percent of the non-mineral sunscreens we evaluated for this year’s guide.
Eight Little-Known Facts About Sunscreens

Do you depend on sunscreen for skin protection? Millions of Americans do, but they shouldn’t. The rate of melanoma diagnosis is increasing. The consensus among scientists is that sunscreens alone cannot reverse this trend. Yet a good sunscreen can play a role in preventing sunburns that are a major risk factor for melanoma – provided you use it correctly.
Sunscreen should be just one tool in your arsenal. These eight little known facts about sunscreens will help you spot problem products and avoid getting burned.
1. There’s no proof that sunscreens prevent most skin cancer.
Rates of melanoma – the most deadly form of skin cancer – have tripled over the past 35 years. Most scientists and public health agencies – including the FDA itself – have found very little evidence that sunscreen prevents most types of skin cancer. Read more.
2. Don’t be fooled by high SPF.
High-SPF products tempt people to apply too little sunscreen and stay in the sun too long. The FDA has proposed prohibiting the sale of sunscreens with SPF values greater than 50+, calling higher SPF values “inherently misleading,” but it has not issued a regulation that carries the force of law. More than 10 percent of sunscreens we evaluated this year advertise SPF values greater than 50+. Read more.
3. The common sunscreen additive vitamin A may speed development of skin cancer.
The sunscreen industry adds a form of vitamin A to 16 percent of beach and sport sunscreens, 14 percent of moisturizers with SPF and 10 percent of lip products in this year’s database.
Retinyl palmitate is an antioxidant that combats skin aging. But studies by federal government scientists indicate that it may trigger development of skin tumors and lesions when used on skin in the presence of sunlight. Other governments warn that cosmetics may contribute to unsafe amounts of vitamin A, and recommend against using vitamin-A-laden cosmetics on the lips and over large portions of the body. EWG recommends that consumers avoid sunscreens, lip products and skin lotions that contain vitamin A, also called retinyl palmitate, retinyl acetate, retinyl linoleate and retinol. Read More
4. European sunscreens provide better UVA protection.
In Europe, sunscreen makers can formulate their products with any of seven chemicals that filter UVA rays. American manufacturers can use only three UVA-filtering ingredients. They have been waiting for years for FDA approval to use sunscreen ingredients widely available in Europe. The FDA has asked the makers of European sunscreen chemicals for more safety data, but until the FDA approves these ingredients and lifts restrictions on combining certain active ingredients, American consumers will be hard-pressed to find sunscreens with the strongest UVA protection. Read more.
5. Sunscreen doesn’t protect skin from all types of sun damage.
SPF measure protection from sunburn but not other types of skin damage The sun’s ultraviolet rays also generate free radicals that damage DNA and skin cells, accelerate skin aging and may cause skin cancer. American sunscreens can reduce these damages, but not as effectively as they prevent sunburn. People can run into problems if they pick a sunscreen with poor UVA protection, apply too little or reapply it infrequently. Sunscreen companies commonly add SPF boosters that inhibit sunburn but may not protect from other damages. The FDA should strengthen its regulations to ensure that sunscreens offer the best possible skin protection. Read more.
6. Some sunscreen ingredients disrupt hormones and cause skin allergies.
There is no perfect sunscreen. Americans must choose between “chemical” sunscreens, which have inferior stability, penetrate the skin and may disrupt the body’s hormone system, and “mineral” sunscreens, made with zinc and titanium, often “micronized” or made up of nanoparticles. Some sunscreens also contain inactive sunscreen ingredients that may trigger allergies. FDA should consider new evidence about the ill effects of sunscreen ingredients. Read more.
7. Mineral sunscreens contain nano-particles.
Most zinc oxide and titanium dioxide-based sunscreens contain nanoparticles one-twentieth the width of a human hair, to reduce or eliminate the chalky white tint that larger particles leave on the skin. Based on the available information, EWG gives a favorable rating to mineral sunscreens, but the FDA should restrict the use of unstable or UV-reactive forms of minerals that would lessen skin protection.Read more.
8. If you avoid sun, check your vitamin D levels.
Sunshine causes the body to produce vitamin D, a critical function that sunscreen appears to inhibit. Vitamin D, technically a hormone, strengthens bones and the immune system and reduces risks of breast, colon, kidney and ovarian cancers and perhaps other disorders.
About 25 percent of Americans have borderline low levels of vitamin D, and 8 percent have a serious deficiency. Breast-fed infants, people with darker skin and people who have limited sun exposure are at greatest risk for vitamin D deficiency. Many people can’t or shouldn’t rely on the sun for vitamin D. Check with your doctor to find out whether you should get a vitamin D test or take seasonal or year-round supplements. Read more

3 Ways to Boost Immunity & Lower Allergies
Prevent colds, reduce allergies, naturally.
If you have allergies, you probably either have a tendency to get sick.
Usually it's all from poor digestion or 'unfavorable' gut bugs.
If you have allergies then you probably have tried numerous of treatments to control it.
Most people use over the counter meds.
These do not work most of the time, or they work and then they do not. The best way to reduce allergies and sicknesses is to build up the happy healthy gut bugs and restore balance.
Here are 3 steps to better allergies and immunity:

Boost your immune system by living a healthy life. This can be done in many ways.
Fatty fish and fish oils contains omega 3 acids which is known to have an anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory (lowers inflammation) that help stand against allergic reactions. It has been said by some that eating fatty fish in food form versus in supplement form provides a strong effect.
Eating foods that contain quercitin- like apples, onions, berries, cabbage and cauliflower have been believed to stop immune cells from producing allergic reactions.
Avoiding foods that are mucous/booger making - such as wheat, dairy, eggs,- to name a few is very effective in addressing one of the root causes of allergies.
Aiming to eat low histamine (or allergy making) foods is helpful as well, (just google histamine rich foods and limit them).
Allergies mean that your immune system is not working well.
If you have allergies then you probably have tried numerous of treatments to control it.
Most people use prescription or over the counter medication, but what they may not know or realize is that by strengthen their immune system they can fight their allergies in a more natural way. Here are three natural ways to fight back with your allergies.

Doing simple things like closing your doors and windows and using the air conditioner for temperature control when pollen counts are high or using a mask and gloves when gardening are productive ways to relieve yourself of the frustration of a continuously sneezing and watery eyes.
Buying a high quality air filter is very helpful especially for those that have extreme allergies. Be sure to have a allergy protective cover for your pillow, along with changing your pillows at least once a year.
Others ways to minimize allergens in your home is to wash your hair and change your clothes when you come in from outside this washes away any allergens you may have attracted while outside.
3. Keep stress levels down.
Stress on your body can cause many symptoms that affect your everyday life. High stress levels can also cause your allergies to worsen as research has shown. So it is important to maintain a low stress level.
This can be done in many ways through meditation, taking a bath, exercising, even sharing a laugh with your friends and family. Remember to pamper yourself when needed this will keep your stress and allergies at bay. Check out my ebook, Stress Less with Scriptures, a guided meditation for more info on stress managment.
By doing these three simple things to boost your immune system you'll find more relief when dealing with your allergies and a less need for allergy medication.
